Living on my old dilapidated campus close to NOTHING is not an option! When I started looking for apartments I wanted a nice one bedroom for me and my text books. Looking in Washington DC while in Boston was extremely difficult, until I found Vacancy.com.It is a life safer sent from real-estate heaven.
I found the perfect apartment on Vacancy.com. It locate in Northwest DC on Florida Ave. I glanced over the listing because it said basement. The last thing I wanted to do is live in a cold, dark basement for 12 months. Upon further investigation (looking at the photos), I fell in love. The beautiful finishes, the lighting and the convenience. It is closer to the metro than my old apartment and all the fun excitement of the U. Street corridor, Zip car locations just two blacks away. Its walking distance to Howard University campus and the new Le Droit park.
It is a two bedroom which I would not mind having only one roommate. The only quam I have about the unit is the price $1650.00, if the price could be brought down a few hundred dollars I would call U-Haul right away. I’m crossing my fingers hoping it is available next semester, I will safe every last penny to move into the apartment. As I sat in my classroom Wednesday teaching my students about fall foliage I was secretly day dreaming of NBC’s fall lineup. Yes I still watch NBC!
Wednesday season premiere on L&O:SVU was uh blah. The way they wrote detective Stabler out the script was disrespectful to us viewers. They could have at least killed him off! I also don’t understand why they replaced him with another annoying blonde.. Mr. Wolfe remember you tried that when Benson was gone? We hate her and we will hate this new one too!
Have you ever had one of those glorious ideas when you decided to pack up all you belonging and move 600 miles from your family, friends and decent food?
Well i did! I made the lovely trek to DC (and by lovely i mean and 8 hour bus ride, with a dead cell phone battery, five bags, and the gift mother nature brings every month). I essentially traded in my cushy well-paying job and life for some magic beans and a dream.
The East Coast has had some no so stellar weather the past few weeks. Its been luke warm, windy, and even a tornado. Today is the first day that most cities are in the 90-100 range.
This is lovely weather for beach go-ers and senior skip-day. This is also raunchy weather for city dwellers. Many people (due to heat exhaustion) forget rule #1 :That is to wear clothes when outside of your home.
I will make it my journalistic duty to document the ratcheted, and lack of clothing I see.
Everyone has a story about “the one that got away” or the missed opportunity(if you don’t believe me check craigslist).
My story Is a little different like that non-Disney princess books they sell at the Flea market.
I met him on a subway train (where all good romances start). He wasn’t my type at all he had on loose fitting clothing and a mustache(lacking a connecting beard). I decided to take his number because I wasn’t in my home city I was in another East Coast haven and thought this would be the first and last encounter.
Flash forward one year and one long distance relationship later we are in… Well not love nor lust it’s more like limbo.
My pending move to the city that will bring us closer is well a big question mark.
Financially and educationally it’s the right move but emotionally it’s a google maps error.
I’ve weighed my options and they all involve me moving, but also ending our love affair.
Reader(s) am I crazy to move hundreds of miles just for a break-up?
If you are any where on the East Coast of these Great United States you are feeling the winter blues. Since December 26th 2010(my B-day). We have been riddled with snow storm after snow storm.
Not only has my own attitude changed I’ve noticed that of my friends and colleagues. No one is happy nor do they want to leave their houses (sometimes i Stay at work longer just not to face the bone chilling cold). People become very territorial with shovels and parking spaces the neighborly aspect of our life is withering. I would not dare ask for a cup of ice melt for fear of snarls from my neighbors.
There are so many major wrongs with this snow. One Schools are closed prematurely in some cases(but I still have to work!). Secondly the snow is an Hazard. I actually fell hit my head, knee and scrapped my hand climbing over a snow bank.Third(there is more than three but I’mbeing nice) it is a complete eye sore it is yellow (gross) and black like the streets are lined with piles of coal.
I know there is a good side like skiing and… skiing, well i guess only skiing.
